Kiki comes back from behind

The lead passed from hand to hand, 5 times over — it was anyone's guess.

Kiki finishes on 114 points, 31 above the next — the rest were playing a different game, it seems. It didn't start well — only 4th after the opening eights — but it clearly didn't end there. 10 good hands in a row — at one point, Kiki was playing as if they could see everyone else's cards.

Elena took second with 83 points — a fine evening, but the gods of whist were busy elsewhere. Elena was even in front after the six-card hand on the way down.

Mihai rounds out the podium with 75 points. Bronze still counts as a medal. The last hand decided it: Mihai went past Carmen right on the line. In the six-card hand on the way up: Mihai called 1, took 4, and Elena was left out in the cold.

Carmen closes out the table, with 69 points. "Last one buys the coffee" — as they say at the table. From leader to red lantern. The little wedge tipped the big cart — and the cart was Carmen. Carmen was ahead of Mihai right up to the last hand.
