Kiki takes the table

The cards went out, and so did the egos. Here is what came of it.

Kiki took the game with 128 points and a 29-point cushion — never really in doubt.

Mihai took second with 99 points — a fine evening, but the gods of whist were busy elsewhere. In the fourth of the opening eights, Mihai bid 3 and took 7 — and Luis and Sebi went down with them.

Third, on the podium: Luis, up there with eyes on the top step. Level on points with Mihai, and behind only on the tie-break.

Vyce finished 4th with 87 points. In the last of the middle eights: Vyce said 0, made 4, and the evening was ruined for Sebi. After the two-card hand on the way up, Vyce was 2nd and dreaming of the podium — but the last hands had other plans.

Sebi took last place without any nerves at all, on 66 points. 2 hands in a row: the table said and did, Sebi said and... hoped. It didn't hold.

Congratulations to all — see you at the next table!
