The lead kept changing — Ana came out on top

The lead changed hands 4 times — nobody got comfortable at the top.

The little wedge tipped the big cart — and the cart was edge. 2 hands in a row: only edge slipped, while the rest said it and did it. The cards were kind to everyone but edge.

Third, on the podium: Mihai, up there with eyes on the top step. Mihai was ahead of Elena right up to the last hand.

Elena took second with 69 points — a fine evening, but the gods of whist were busy elsewhere. The last hand decided it: Elena went past Mihai right on the line. In the third of the middle eights, Elena bid 2 and took 5 — and edge went down with it.

Ana won at a stroll, with 106 points and 37 clear of the rest. In the first of the closing eights: Ana said 1, scooped 4, and Mihai was left counting the pieces.
