edge won at a stroll, with 115 points and 35 clear of the rest. In the first of the closing eights: edge said 1, made 6, and the evening was ruined for Elena. In front from the third of the opening eights to the end, and nobody got close enough to worry about.

Elena took second with 80 points — a fine evening, but the gods of whist were busy elsewhere. 2 hands in a row: the table said and did, Elena said and... hoped. It didn't hold.

PaulP rounds out the podium with 65 points. Bronze still counts as a medal. The last of the closing eights: PaulP bid 8, made fewer, and counted the regrets.
