The comeback of Roua

A game of broken contracts — 40 of them around the table, and scores from 78 all the way down to 63.

Last place, with dignity: Ionela, with 63 points. Somebody had to do it. In the first of the closing eights: Ionela said 0, scooped 3, and Carmen was left counting the pieces. After the seven-card hand on the way up, Ionela was 2nd and dreaming of the podium — but the last hands had other plans.

Iuly rounds out the podium with 67 points. Bronze still counts as a medal. Iuly swore 0 in the six-card hand on the way down and took a trick — whist has a sense of humour.

Carmen led for 20 hands but finished second, 8 points behind. In the third of the middle eights: Carmen said 2, scooped 5, and Ionela was left counting the pieces. Carmen was ahead of Roua right up to the last hand.

First place, no appeal: Roua, with 78 points. Roua only went in front at the very last hand.
