The lead kept changing — Mihai came out on top

The lead passed from hand to hand, 5 times over — it was anyone's guess.

Last place, with dignity: Ana, with 63 points. Somebody had to do it. In the second of the closing eights: Ana said 4, scooped 7, and Elena and Lucky were left counting the pieces. After the six-card hand on the way up, Ana was 3rd and dreaming of the podium — but the last hands had other plans.

Elena rounds out the podium with 66 points. Bronze still counts as a medal. Elena swore 0 in the seven-card hand on the way up and took a trick — whist has a sense of humour.

Lucky led for 11 hands but finished second, 1 point behind. The place above was a single point away. At one stretch, 7 good hands in a row.

Mihai won by a whisker, with just 1 point — at whist even one point is as good as a mile. Mihai only went in front at the very last hand. In the first of the opening eights: Mihai said 2, made 5, and the evening was ruined for Elena.
