Last place, with dignity: Ana, with 71 points. Somebody had to do it. In the last of the closing eights: Ana said 1, made 4, and the evening was ruined for Mihai. After the six-card hand on the way up, Ana was 3rd and dreaming of the podium — but the last hands had other plans.

Third, and on the podium: Mihai, with 80 points. Mihai was ahead of Elena right up to the last hand. Mihai was even in front after the four-card hand on the way down.

Elena took second with 86 points — a fine evening, but the gods of whist were busy elsewhere. The last hand decided it: Elena went past Mihai right on the line. From the tail of the table to a warm spot: Elena plays right down to the last card.
