The comeback of Emi

One evening, 5 players, a single crown. The rest — stories to tell over coffee.

Last place, with dignity: Adri, with 78 points. Somebody had to do it. Leading by the book until the last of the opening eights... then the cards turned the page. Adri, hard luck. 2 hands in a row: the whole table kept its word, only Adri didn't — but insisted, with dignity.

Petru finished 4th with 80 points. Petru was ahead of Raluca right up to the last hand. 2 hands in a row: the table said and did, Petru said and... hoped. It didn't hold.

Third, and on the podium: Raluca, with 86 points. Raluca got past Petru at the very last hand. In the first of the opening eights: Raluca said 2, scooped 5, and Elena was left counting the pieces.

Elena took second with 101 points — a fine evening, but the gods of whist were busy elsewhere. Elena left the robot at the wheel most of the evening and still came out respectable. Teamwork with the server.

Emi took the game with 136 points and a 35-point cushion — never really in doubt. In the third of the closing eights: Emi called 2, took 5, and Petru and Raluca were left out in the cold. It didn't start well — only 3rd after the opening eights — but it clearly didn't end there.
