Ana never gave up the lead

A game of broken contracts — 36 of them around the table, and scores from 105 all the way down to 74.

Last place, with dignity: Mihai, with 74 points. Somebody had to do it. Mihai was ahead of Luis right up to the last hand. 2 hands in a row: the table said and did, Mihai said and... hoped. It didn't hold.

Third, on the podium: Pity, up there with eyes on the top step. Pity got past Mihai at the very last hand. In the first of the closing eights: Pity said 1, made 6, and the evening was ruined for Luis.

Luis took second with 79 points — a fine evening, but the gods of whist were busy elsewhere. The last hand decided it: Luis went past Mihai right on the line.

Ana wins by 26 clear. That's not whist any more, it's a parade with a brass band. In front from the third of the opening eights to the end, and nobody got close enough to worry about. At one stretch, 6 good hands in a row.
