Elena wins the evening

A game of broken contracts — 35 of them around the table, and scores from 115 all the way down to 59.

Pity took last place without any nerves at all, on 59 points. Started like a champion — top of the table after the last of the opening eights — and finished like a tragedy. 3 hands in a row: the whole table kept its word, only Pity didn't — but insisted, with dignity.

Monica rounds out the podium with 81 points. Bronze still counts as a medal. In the third of the middle eights, Monica bid 1 and took 4 — and Luis went down with it. 3 hands in a row: Monica broke the contract each time while everyone else made theirs.

Luis took second with 83 points — a fine evening, but the gods of whist were busy elsewhere. Luis swore 0 in the second of the opening eights and took a trick — whist has a sense of humour.

Elena took the game with 115 points and a 32-point cushion — never really in doubt. 16 good hands in a row — at one point, Elena was playing as if they could see everyone else's cards. And that despite a slip in the very last hand.
