The comeback of Elena

The lead passed from hand to hand, 7 times over — it was anyone's guess.

Sebi closes out the table, with 93 points. "Last one buys the coffee" — as they say at the table. From leader to red lantern. The little wedge tipped the big cart — and the cart was Sebi. In the third of the closing eights: Sebi called 3, took 6, and Vyce was left out in the cold.

Luis rounds out the podium with 94 points. Bronze still counts as a medal. Level on points with Vyce, and behind only on the tie-break. Luis was ahead of Elena right up to the last hand.

Vyce led for 13 hands but finished second, 3 points behind. The last hand decided it: Vyce went past Luis right on the line. 2 hands in a row: only Vyce slipped, while the rest said it and did it. The cards were kind to everyone but Vyce.

Elena won by a whisker, with just 3 points — at whist even one point is as good as a mile. Elena only went in front at the very last hand. It didn't start well — only 4th after the opening eights — but it clearly didn't end there.
