The lead kept changing — Elena came out on top

The lead passed from hand to hand, 6 times over — it was anyone's guess.

Last place, with dignity: Daniela, with 64 points. Somebody had to do it. In the third of the closing eights: Daniela said 1, made 5, and the evening was ruined for GeorgeS. The place above was a single point away.

Third, on the podium: GeorgeS, up there with eyes on the top step. GeorgeS was ahead of Mihai right up to the last hand. GeorgeS was even in front after the seven-card hand on the way down.

Mihai took second with 69 points — a fine evening, but the gods of whist were busy elsewhere. Mihai got past GeorgeS at the very last hand. From the tail of the table to a warm spot: Mihai plays right down to the last card.

Elena took the game with 111 points and a 42-point cushion — never really in doubt.

Congratulations to all — see you at the next table!
