Pity comes back from behind

The lead changed hands 6 times — nobody got comfortable at the top.

Pity won by a whisker, with just 2 points — at whist even one point is as good as a mile. Pity was even last after the first of the middle eights, which makes the win all the sweeter. 7 good hands in a row — at one point, Pity was playing as if they could see everyone else's cards.

Cristian Imparat finished second, just 2 points short of the win. Cristian said they'd take nothing in the four-card hand on the way up... and took some. Whist listens, then does the opposite.

Third, on the podium: Elena, up there with eyes on the top step. Elena got past Ionela at the very last hand. Elena was even in front after the four-card hand on the way down.

In 4th place, Ionela, on 83 points. Ionela was ahead of Elena right up to the last hand. After the two-card hand on the way up, Ionela was leading the table — but the last hands had other plans.

The tail of the table: Mihai, with 79 points. Somebody has to hold the candle. From leader to red lantern. The little wedge tipped the big cart — and the cart was Mihai. Before the last eights, only 3 points off the podium — the pace just didn't hold.
