Elena led for 15 hands but finished second, 1 point behind. Elena was ahead of Ana right up to the last hand. At one stretch, 7 good hands in a row.

Third, on the podium: Luis, up there with eyes on the top step. In the six-card hand on the way down: Luis said 1, scooped 5, and Mihai was left counting the pieces. Luis was even in front after the last of the opening eights.

Mihai took last place without any nerves at all, on 56 points. From leader to red lantern. The little wedge tipped the big cart — and the cart was Mihai.
