The comeback of Ionela

The lead changed hands 4 times — nobody got comfortable at the top.

Last place, with dignity: crista, with 54 points. Somebody had to do it. Leading by the book until the last of the opening eights... then the cards turned the page. crista, hard luck. In the seven-card hand on the way up: crista said 2, scooped 5, and Ionela and Vyce were left counting the pieces.

Vyce rounds out the podium with 67 points. Bronze still counts as a medal. Vyce swore 0 in the first of the middle eights and took a trick — whist has a sense of humour.

Luis finished second, just 2 points short of the win. In the first of the closing eights: Luis called 2, took 6, and Vyce and crista were left out in the cold. Luis was ahead of Ionela right up to the last hand.

Ionela won by a whisker, with just 2 points — at whist even one point is as good as a mile. Ionela only went in front at the very last hand. It didn't start well — only 4th after the opening eights — but it clearly didn't end there.
