Luis, from start to finish

An evening with a bit of everything, except contracts kept: 43 slips at the table and scores from 113 down to 47.

Luis wins by 46 clear. That's not whist any more, it's a parade with a brass band. In the six-card hand on the way down: Luis said 0, scooped 4, and Ana and Elena were left counting the pieces. In front from the first of the opening eights to the end, and nobody got close enough to worry about.

Ana took second with 67 points — a fine evening, but the gods of whist were busy elsewhere. Ana left the robot at the wheel most of the evening and still came out respectable. Teamwork with the server.

Third, and on the podium: Elena, with 53 points. Elena got past Mihai at the very last hand.

Mihai closes out the table, with 47 points. "Last one buys the coffee" — as they say at the table. In the third of the closing eights, Mihai bid 2 and took 6 — and Elena went down with it. Mihai was ahead of Elena right up to the last hand.
