The comeback of Elena

The lead changed hands 8 times — nobody got comfortable at the top.

Cretu took last place without any nerves at all, on 58 points. Cretu had the table at their feet after the last of the opening eights. Whist was there to remind them nothing lasts forever.

Third, on the podium: Ana, up there with eyes on the top step. In the third of the middle eights: Ana said 1, made 4, and the evening was ruined for Cretu. Ana was even in front after the first of the middle eights.

Mihai finishes second, 8 points short of gold. Silver shines, but not quite the same. Mihai was ahead of Elena right up to the last hand. Mihai was even in front after the third of the middle eights.

First place, no appeal: Elena, with 96 points. Elena only went in front at the very last hand. It didn't start well — only 3rd after the opening eights — but it clearly didn't end there.

Well played everyone — and especially Elena!
