Mara never gave up the lead

Another evening at the green baize — a bit of everything, just like home.
The tail of the table: Vyce, with 72 points. Somebody has to hold the candle. 2 hands in a row: only Vyce slipped, while the rest said it and did it. The cards were kind to everyone but Vyce.
In 5th place, Abdrei, on 82 points. Abdrei swore 0 in the fifth of the opening eights and took a trick — whist has a sense of humour.
Petru finishes right in the middle — neither hot nor cold — 4th, with 94 points. In the fourth of the closing eights: Petru said 1, made 4, and the evening was ruined for Mara. After the first of the closing eights, Petru was 2nd and dreaming of the podium — but the last hands had other plans.
Third, on the podium: Daniel S, up there with eyes on the top step. In the first of the closing eights: Daniel said 0, made 3, and the evening was ruined for Vyce.
PaulP took second with 108 points — a fine evening, but the gods of whist were busy elsewhere. 2 hands in a row: the table said and did, PaulP said and... hoped. It didn't hold.
Mara took the game with 149 points and a 41-point cushion — never really in doubt. In front from the first of the opening eights to the end, and nobody got close enough to worry about. 14 good hands in a row — at one point, Mara was playing as if they could see everyone else's cards. Mara couldn't bear to look 3 times 🙈 — some cards are not meant to be seen.
Congratulations to all — see you at the next table!
