The comeback of Elena

The lead passed from hand to hand, 5 times over — it was anyone's guess.

Last place: Mihai, with 67 points. 2 hands in a row: the table said and did, Mihai said and... hoped. It didn't hold. After the two-card hand on the way up, Mihai was 3rd and dreaming of the podium — but the last hands had other plans.

Third, and on the podium: Daniel S, with 77 points. Daniel was ahead of Ana right up to the last hand.

Ana took second with 79 points — a fine evening, but the gods of whist were busy elsewhere. Ana got past Daniel S at the very last hand. 2 hands in a row: the whole table kept its word, only Ana didn't — but insisted, with dignity.

Elena took the game with 108 points and a 29-point cushion — never really in doubt. In the first of the closing eights: Elena called 1, took 4, and Daniel S was left out in the cold. It didn't start well — only 3rd after the opening eights — but it clearly didn't end there.
