Luis wins the evening

A game of broken contracts — 36 of them around the table, and scores from 128 all the way down to 50.

Last place, with dignity: Mihai, with 50 points. Somebody had to do it. In the third of the opening eights: Mihai said 1, scooped 5, and Daniela was left counting the pieces. 2 hands in a row: the table said and did, Mihai said and... hoped. It didn't hold.

Third, on the podium: Daniela, up there with eyes on the top step. In the last of the opening eights: Daniela said 0, made 3, and the evening was ruined for Luis. 2 hands in a row: the whole table kept its word, only Daniela didn't — but insisted, with dignity.

Elena took second with 94 points — a fine evening, but the gods of whist were busy elsewhere. 3 hands in a row: only Elena slipped, while the rest said it and did it. The cards were kind to everyone but Elena. Elena was even in front after the six-card hand on the way down.

Luis finishes on 128 points, 34 above the next — the rest were playing a different game, it seems. 15 good hands in a row — at one point, Luis was playing as if they could see everyone else's cards.
