Luis wins the evening

A game of broken contracts — 34 of them around the table, and scores from 122 all the way down to 61.

Emi closes out the table, with 61 points. "Last one buys the coffee" — as they say at the table. In the second of the opening eights, Emi bid 4 and took 8 — and Sebi went down with it. After the two-card hand on the way up, Emi was 3rd and dreaming of the podium — but the last hands had other plans.

Third, and on the podium: Daniela, with 73 points. In the seven-card hand on the way down: Daniela said 3, scooped 6, and Sebi was left counting the pieces. 2 hands in a row: the table said and did, Daniela said and... hoped. It didn't hold.

Sebi took second with 79 points — a fine evening, but the gods of whist were busy elsewhere. Sebi swore 0 in the three-card hand on the way down and took a trick — whist has a sense of humour.

Luis took the game with 122 points and a 43-point cushion — never really in doubt. 10 good hands in a row — at one point, Luis was playing as if they could see everyone else's cards. Luis cried laughing 3 times 😂 — a fun evening, at least on one side of the table.
