The comeback of Ilinca

The lead changed hands 4 times — nobody got comfortable at the top.

The tail of the table: Elena, with 71 points. Somebody has to hold the candle. In the third of the middle eights, Elena bid 2 and took 5 — and Mihai went down with it.

Mihai finishes right in the middle — neither hot nor cold — 5th, with 83 points. Mihai said they'd take nothing in the four-card hand on the way down... and took some. Whist listens, then does the opposite.

Ana finished 4th with 92 points. In the fourth of the opening eights: Ana said 0, scooped 4, and Elena was left counting the pieces. 2 hands in a row: the table said and did, Ana said and... hoped. It didn't hold.

Third, on the podium: Radu, up there with eyes on the top step. At one stretch, 13 good hands in a row.

Mara finished second, just 3 points short of the win. Mara swore 0 in the three-card hand on the way down and took a trick — whist has a sense of humour.

Ilinca won with 121 points, by a whisker: just 3 points ahead.
