The comeback of Luis

One evening, 5 players, a single crown. The rest — stories to tell over coffee.

The tail of the table: Alina, with 74 points. Somebody has to hold the candle. In the third of the closing eights: Alina called 0, took 3, and Ana was left out in the cold.

Ana finishes right in the middle — neither hot nor cold — 4th, with 88 points. After the two-card hand on the way up, Ana was leading the table — but the last hands had other plans. At one stretch, 14 good hands in a row.

Third, and on the podium: Mihai, with 105 points. 3 hands in a row: the table said and did, Mihai said and... hoped. It didn't hold. Mihai spent a good while in last place and climbed out of it.

Cristian Imparat finished second, just 2 points short of the win. Cristian was ahead of Luis right up to the last hand. Cristian was even in front after the first of the closing eights.

Luis won with 115 points, by a whisker: just 2 points ahead. Luis only went in front at the very last hand. It didn't start well — only 4th after the opening eights — but it clearly didn't end there.
