edge, from start to finish

The cards went out, and so did the egos. Here is what came of it.

edge won at a stroll, with 130 points and 26 clear of the rest. In front from the third of the opening eights to the end, and nobody got close enough to worry about. At one stretch, 12 good hands in a row.

Elena took second with 104 points — a fine evening, but the gods of whist were busy elsewhere. The last of the closing eights: Elena called 6 with the heart, not the cards. Eyes bigger than the hand.

Ana rounds out the podium with 65 points. Bronze still counts as a medal. 2 hands in a row: Ana broke the contract each time while everyone else made theirs.

Mihai closed the table from the back, on 60 points — there is always a next game. 2 hands in a row: only Mihai slipped, while the rest said it and did it. The cards were kind to everyone but Mihai. After the two-card hand on the way up, Mihai was 3rd and dreaming of the podium — but the last hands had other plans.

Congratulations to all — see you at the next table!
