Elena takes the table

The cards went out, and so did the egos. Here is what came of it.

Elena won by a whisker, with just 3 points — at whist even one point is as good as a mile.

Ioana finished second, just 3 points short of the win. In the fifth of the opening eights: Ioana called 1, took 5, and Mihai and Radu were left out in the cold. Ioana was even in front after the fourth of the closing eights.

Third, and on the podium: Alina, with 110 points. In the four-card hand on the way down: Alina said 1, made 4, and the evening was ruined for Mihai.

Neither at the front nor at the back: Radu in 4th, with 110 points. The comfort zone. The last hand decided it: Radu went past Ana right on the line. Level on points with Alina, and behind only on the tie-break.

In 5th place, Ana, on 106 points. Ana was ahead of Radu right up to the last hand. After the first of the closing eights, Ana was 2nd and dreaming of the podium — but the last hands had other plans.

The tail of the table: Mihai, with 98 points. Somebody has to hold the candle. Mihai swore 0 in the seven-card hand on the way down and took a trick — whist has a sense of humour.
